Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Spildit,

I'll try this trick on both of my damaged boards tonite and let you know the results. The drive does click as the machine is starting up, but once Windows has booted, it stops. It does not spin down either.

Hope you are wrong Vlad... ;)

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hello Gentlemen, Vlad, I received the key you PM'ed me and installed it, then followed your advice to try first head 0, then head 1 to try to access the SA modules. In both cases, the result was as before: "Error reading module dir, state - SERVO_ERROR_CODE_BASE_SvirActSync" So it looks li...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Vlad, Thanks for the offer of the key, I'm PM'ing you my email address. I would love to license your product if it meant I could recover this data! Thanks! Hi Spildit, Thanks for your long and considered response. Here is a little more info for you; I have two of these failed drives which were bo...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Vlad, I finally had the opportunity to try this today, but the results are not encouraging I'm afraid... If I select head 0 only as shown: https://app.box.com/shared/static/iqiq2shl0or4afg3qq3btw53hez7lfn8.jpg I get these errors, and the attempt is unsuccessful: https://app.box.com/shared/static/...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Vlad, I actually had two of these drives in the machine when it had the power surge. They are identical with the same build date and firmware version on the label. If I try the second drive, I get a different error, although it is making the same kind of noise as the first: https://app.box.com/sh...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Vlad, Still not sure which menu choices you mean exactly? Is it S/A Operations -> Modules Operations as shown here? https://app.box.com/shared/static/9eebdusiwna6rfoyrxh60miiwc142o8s.jpg If this is what you're looking for, you can see the error at the bottom of the display: Error reading module D...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Vlad, Thanks very much for your response. I'm sorry to be so dumb, but I'm afraid I'm just not sure exactly what you're looking for here? I downloaded the beta 9 today and ran it, then went to SA Operations, then Module operations and clicked the 'Find modules $01-$FF' button shown here and got t...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Vlad & Spildit (if you're still around), I had the opportunity to try this again with Beta 8 in AHCI mode as Vlad suggested, and seem to have had much better luck with it. If I select the drive and detect it, some parameters of the drive are found, as shown below. The size is still reported a...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Well, I shut the machine down and unplugged the other drive from the 3 Gb SATA controller so the problematic drive is the only one connected to it. I entered the BIOS to change the setting from AHCI to IDE compatible, but unfortunately the two controllers cannot be selected independently there, they...

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?

Hi Spildit, OK, I tried your suggestions. You can see the result. After selecting IDE/compatible and detecting the slave drive with a timeout of 60 sec, the drive is detected with size 0 GB. I'm not sure about the 'Drive is password Protected' error? When I select ROM->Read ROM, it appears to be rea...
