Can WDMarvel fix WD element 2TB(WD20NMVW) firmware issue?

Post by biggerpizza »

I have a dead WD element 2TB(WD20NMVW) usb3.0
pcb: 77-1961
It can not be detected by any sofware or os.
Suppose to be a corrupted firmware( or a bad head).
The led is flashing all the time, and there is a tick every about 30 seconds.
I just want to know is WD Marvel able to fix this hdd's firmware before I purchase the full version.

Thanks
I have already read the one in hddguru 10 days ago. And I have got the compatible sata dona pcb as well.
I just want to know
1 Can WDMarvel fix the firmware problem for this relative new hdd.
2 Where I can find the firmware? Does wd-marvel provide firmware?
3 The HDD(swap with sata pcb) can not talk to any hdd tools(like wdmarvel-demo or wdr) now. The firmware module may be corrupted. Shall I set it to safemode? Then what's next after I boot the pcb into safemode?

thanks

1 WDMarwel is a tool, it does not fix firmware by himself, it gives you an ability to work with firmware
2 Each HDD have unique modules in firmware, you can not write it from another HDD
Not, not provide
3 You need write ROM from original pcb to new pcb, it is also unique for each HDD

Considering your questions, you will not be able to repair this hard drive

Thanks Vlad,

1. I know WDMarvel is a tool. I have tried other tools, none of them can write wd element WD20NMVW - 11AV3S4, they can only read/write module on old WD HDDS. That's why I am turning to WD Marvel. I know PC3000 can do the job, but $$$$
2. I know I got to find the right firmware. If WD Marvel doesn't provide Firmware, I just need to get/buy it somewhere else.
3. I have already taken the serial flash chip(rom) off the original pcb and soldered on the sata pcb one week ago.

Now back to my question. Does WD Marvel cover my WD HDD? Is any technical doc about how many WD HDDS( family) are supported.
Thanks again
