Question about Demo and WD Passport Ultra

Post by mike2023 »

Hi all,

Before I buy WDMARVEL I'd like to see if it will work in this case.
Disk - WD Passport Ultra 1tb 2.5 WD10JMVW-11AJGS4, WD BLUE type.
The disk is 4/5 full, files are large, 1gb per file on average.
The disk is NOT encrypted.
The disk is recognized in win 10, the file system is visible.
The disk is likely to be SED and SA is likely locked, but I'm not sure.
The PROBLEM - disk slow and slowing down windows, most likely because of bad sectors and large G-list.
I found out that WDMARVEL can fix the slowness problem.
I replaced USB disk controller with SATA controller and swapped the ROM chip.
( don't know if this will help or not ? )
I load WDMARVEL demo version after turning off driver signing during win 10 boot.
The disk is connected to a laptop thru sata-usb data cable ( 2.0 usb port on laptop ).
The disk is detected in WDMARVEL demo version, I can get SMART.

But any other functions generate errors:

s/a operations -> disk info ->
7/5/2023 5:38:24 PM: Error reading drive information, state - SCSI error 02200010
soft reset ->
7/5/2023 5:39:09 PM: FW restarted (Reset immediate)
read rom -->
7/5/2023 5:43:16 PM: ROM successfully read
defects -> sa editor ->
7/5/2023 5:44:25 PM: Error reading SA_List, state - SCSI error 02200010
7/5/2023 5:46:36 PM: Drive not ready before transfer request
defects -> g-list editor
7/5/2023 5:46:36 PM: Error reading G-List, state - BE01

..and the modules are NOT loading, empty list.

What do those errors mean ?
Should I use native USB controller or SATA controller ?
Do I need to turn off SED and how ?
What would be the best sequence to fix slowness in my case ?

Thank you!

work only through SATA or compatible card. (2.5 USB 771961 -> 771960/771939/771959with resoldering the ROM chip to the donor, or flashing it on the programmer.....etc.)
Image

In the photo, contact 5 is signed as e74, solder it to e73.
use pins 2,3,5,6 and solder any of gnd to ground on the HDD board.

first you need to achieve stable reading, rather there is no SED blocking, it just slows down via USB, which interferes with working with it.
to remove the slowness you need to disable error handling

Already switched to SATA board 771961 -> 771960
This SATA board is USB 3.0 SS ( super speed ) controller
but if I hook it up to USB 3.0 port on my laptop the disk starts to disconnect and reconnect,
so I hook it up thru USB 2.0 port - stable connection.

Already switched ROM chips.
Disk with SATA board is recognized in windows, file system showing.
But any another demo operations it generates these errors =:

s/a operations -> disk info ->
7/5/2023 5:38:24 PM: Error reading drive information, state - SCSI error 02200010
soft reset ->
7/5/2023 5:39:09 PM: FW restarted (Reset immediate)
read rom -->
7/5/2023 5:43:16 PM: ROM successfully read
defects -> sa editor ->
7/5/2023 5:44:25 PM: Error reading SA_List, state - SCSI error 02200010
7/5/2023 5:46:36 PM: Drive not ready before transfer request
defects -> g-list editor
7/5/2023 5:46:36 PM: Error reading G-List, state - BE01

If modules are not loading OR G-list can't be read, then how can "slow responding" problem be fixed ???
How to verify that disk is not SED ?
Even if password is not used it still can be SED drive...

What is SCSI 02200010 error ?
What is SCSI 02720500 error ?

As I understand "slowness fix" needs access to FW, but if the disk is slow or SED and SA is locked, then how to make it work ?

How to achieve stable reading?

To start the driver in the x64 version of Windows 7, 8, 10, run TestModeOn.bat file as administrator and restart the computer.
To cancel this changes, run TestModeOff.bat file as administrator and restart the computer.
Not any USB, connect directly to SATA
It is not convenient to do this via USB due to the intervention of the operating system.
select IDE/AHCI mode in BIOS if possible
select type in IDE/AHCI program
select the port where the HDD is located
he must decide and give the passport at the touch of a button
read modules, etc.

there is not even a screenshot of what and how are you.

I tried connecting directly to SATA
it did not work
it prevented windows 10 from loading
basically slowed down win 10 and OS did not load

Any other ideas ?

connect only after the operating system starts.... sata-power sata, disconnect power sata-sata
if the ports are IDE, then the port on which the hdd hangs can be disabled in the device manager, so the system will not interfere with the work.
you can only connect the board .... after 10 minutes it will give readiness in safe mode.

Modern Antivirus Software for Better Device Security

Every internet-connected device can become a target for malware, identity theft, malicious downloads, and fraudulent websites.

Real-time threat detection can help prevent harmful software from stealing passwords, damaging files, or affecting device performance.

Discover useful resources for improving your online protection with free Trojan remover.

Why Antivirus Software Is Important

Online threats often appear as legitimate files, useful applications, urgent account notifications, or ordinary website links.

Different types of malware may steal account credentials, monitor user activity, damage documents, or provide attackers with remote access.

An active antivirus engine can analyze new files and block known threats before they are allowed to run.

Protection Against Common Cyber Threats
  • Traditional computer viruses and malicious files
  • Ransomware designed to restrict access to personal data
  • Spyware that monitors private user activity
  • Malicious Trojans hidden inside ordinary applications
  • Fraudulent websites created to steal account credentials
  • Potentially unwanted applications
  • Malicious files distributed through downloads or email

Key Capabilities of Modern Security Software

Quality antivirus software should combine dependable malware detection with simple controls and efficient system performance.

Real-time scanning is particularly useful because threats can be inspected when files are downloaded, opened, or executed.

Regular updates allow security software to respond to an evolving range of viruses and online threats.

Important security capabilities may include:
  • Active protection against malicious software
  • Flexible scanning for files, folders, and drives
  • Detection of fraudulent and dangerous websites
  • Automatic security database updates
  • Safe isolation of potentially harmful content
  • Protection from unauthorized file encryption

Safer Browsing and Online Shopping

Personal information is frequently entered into websites while making purchases, managing accounts, or communicating online.

Web security features may warn users before they visit suspicious pages or download potentially dangerous files.

No security application replaces the need to remain cautious when opening unfamiliar links or entering account credentials.

Security for Personal and Professional Devices

Personal devices often contain photographs, documents, saved passwords, payment information, and private communications.

Organizations must protect employee accounts, operational files, customer records, and other sensitive business data.

Device protection is most effective when several complementary security measures are used together.

How to Strengthen Your Digital Security

Keep the operating system, web browser, and installed applications updated.

Avoid reusing passwords and activate two-step verification whenever it is available.

Back up essential files regularly and verify that the stored copies can be restored successfully.

Be cautious with free installers, unexpected browser extensions, and unofficial software packages.

Improve Your Device Protection Today

A dependable antivirus solution, combined with safe browsing habits, can help prevent many common security incidents.

The strongest approach combines updated antivirus software, current applications, secure passwords, regular backups, and careful online behavior.
