Before Purchasing I want to make I have the right equipment and software for this program?

Try the free DEMO.
If the DEMO works then the full version will work as well.
Also WDR is NOT THE SAME as WDMarvel.
WDR is a "pirated" tool done by a Chinese "Union" that no longer exists and that "compiled" or "created" WDR using HRT 5.0 WD-Marvel tool (stolen "code" and GUI). WDR have "bugs" that were never corrected and doesn't work on modern drives as well.

You really want to use WDMarvel instead.
If you like the DEMO version and if it works fine for you (it can only read) then but the full version so that you can write to the drive.

So does this also apply to the WDMarvel tool? It's any SATA controller, is that right? I have a SATA HDD Docking station from iCAN (Model GDPD07T).

So I cannot use the docking station as a substitute for PCI/PCI-e interface? My PC is a Surface Pro 6 and I want to fully understand the hardware and software requirements to be able to use WDMarvel. If so, is there a workaround to this?

Surface Pro 6 - No sata ports (ahci mode/ide mode) available
motherboard sata port - yes, ahci mode/ide mode, no raid
usb<->SATA box - no
PCI-E -SATA-yes (jmb363- ok, ahci mode/ide mode, no raid)
PCI-SATA - yes (for ahci mode/ide mode, no raid)

I see. I thought since
WDMarvel 3.1.1, there's USB support. Did something happen to the USB support? I must have misunderstood something about hardware compatibility for WDMarvel.

Thanks for the swift response! If I cannot use USB for repair purposes, then what is it used for specifically? Is the USB read-only or read and write? In my case, I need to somehow rebuild donor PCB's ROM from patient HDD's SA and my first thought is to use WDMarvel.
