Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?
Hi Vlad,
Still not sure which menu choices you mean exactly? Is it S/A Operations -> Modules Operations as shown here?

If this is what you're looking for, you can see the error at the bottom of the display:
Error reading module Dir, state - SERVO_ERROR_CODE_BASE_SvirLatchHang
If not, please help me to find what you're looking for... As always, thanks very much for the help!

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?
Yes, this menu
Latch Hang
Drive cannot unpark head stack
This can not be fixed by software
Or PCB is incompatible
Actuator latch

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?
Hi Vlad,
I actually had two of these drives in the machine when it had the power surge. They are identical with the same build date and firmware version on the label. If I try the second drive, I get a different error, although it is making the same kind of noise as the first:

SERVO_ERROR_CODE_BASE_SvirActSync
Is this one just as bad and not fixable with the utility?
SRUTSSSSSSSS80,
I'm really a n00b at this and don't know about overlays. Would it help to repair the drive? Any further information or references?
Thanks again for your responses guys,
Ian

Re: Write BIOS from drive's system area to replacement PCB?
Usually, SERVO_ERROR_CODE_BASE_SvirActSync means dead head or commutator
Go to Heads, Edit head map in 0A
Unchek all heads, then turn on head 0
Try to read modules, if no, turn off 0 and turn on 1
Check all heads, is someone of them read modules?
PS
All SERVO_ERROR_CODE_BASE errors are very bad
They means that drive can not find servo marks, and as result, can not to position heads and can not stabilize the disks RPM
